‘We aim to build a conscious generation. This sounds pretty big, but starts very small, like here tonight, with you.’ I hear myself saying this while watching the video shots of the very first Follow your Sun Workshop, last week in Amsterdam. Although our website has been online a few weeks now, and we’ve been telling who we are and we already started to share what we believe in on social media, at this moment it felt like we officially started. After all, building a more conscious generation is not something you do your own: we need each other.
At seven ‘o clock the workshop space at Knowmads Alternative Business School was filled with fifteen young people who all had their own motive and reason to join this kick-off. During the check-in exercise motivations like curiosity, positive energy and the need for inspiration and focus were being shared. We, Kiymet and I, were full of excitement to share our story with the group and to experiment with the tools we developed.
Time and attention to think about the life you want to live – your Sun – is something we often lack in our busy daily lives. One of the primary goals of this session was to create this space for reflection: who am I, where am I heading and am I following my dreams and ambitions? Before the group started reflecting on these questions, we did an exercise to connect with ourselves and with each other: an eye-contact meditation. By literally looking each other in the eyes in silence, we see the other and through that, ourselves.
The rest of the evening was focused on jointly discovering your Sun. By looking at different aspects of your personality and your view on the world – like your passions, talents and core values -, you start realizing the common themes in your life. If you know who you are, and how you affect your environment if you are the most authentic version of yourself, you discover the positive impact you can have on your world. Of course these are all very big questions to answer in one evening, but by attending this session the participants set their intentions to start. See it as the beginning of the most exciting journey of your life: following your Sun.
We look back at an exciting and very valuable evening, grateful for the insights and feedback we received. What an honor to be able to guide these beautiful people in finding their Sun. At the same time we are confirmed in ours: this is what we love to do the most. We can’t wait to travel to South-East Asia to learn from other organizations and to further develop our programs with the feedback we received. By the end of 2016 another workshop will take place, we look forward to seeing you there!
